Hugo Spritz is your new summer BFF! This hugo cocktail, made with St-Germain elderflower liqueur, Prosecco, seltzer, and mint, is like a refreshing garden party in a glass. It was created around 2005 by bartender Roland Gruber in the charming town of Naturno, Northern Italy, near the Austrian border—so, you know it’s got some European flair!
What is a hugo spritz? Originally, Gruber called this cocktail the Otto and used lemon balm cordial as the base. But one day, he decided the name Hugo sounded way cooler, swapped out the cordial for elderflower liqueur, and—voilà—the Hugo we know and love was born!
While it took Europe by storm in the 2010s, hugo drink took a little longer to make waves in the U.S. But no worries! Simon Difford, a cocktail pro, helped bring a similar drink called the St-Germain Cocktail to the States. Now, this fizzy delight is making its way into hearts (and glasses) all over the world!
