  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt (for dough)
  • 1/4 cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)
  • Optional: melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine flour, salt, olive oil, and yeast mixture. Knead until smooth and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Roll dough into ropes, cut into sticks, and place on a baking sheet.
  4. Boil water with baking soda, then dip each stick for 30 seconds. Place back on the sheet.
  5. Brush with butter (optional), sprinkle with salt, and bake at 450°F for 12-15 minutes until golden.
