  • 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar (packed, light or dark)
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract (pure)
  • 3 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp White vinegar
  • 1 tsp Liquid-gel food coloring (red; see notes)

For the Frosting:

  • 7/8 cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 block Cream cheese (3 ounces or 85g)
  • 1 1/2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp Milk powder (instant)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
  3. Prepare Wet Mixture: In another bowl, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, egg, vanilla, white vinegar, and red food coloring. Mix well.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a thick batter forms.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Make Frosting: Beat softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk powder together until smooth and creamy.
  7. Cool and Frost: Let the brownies cool completely before spreading the frosting on top.
