Ingredients
Scale
- 400g spaghetti (about 14 oz)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional for serving)
Instructions
- Cook the Spaghetti:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions, usually 9-11 minutes, until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/2 cup of pasta water for later.
- Prepare the Spaghetti A Cetto Sauce:
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using), and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and lightly golden, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, and season with salt and pepper. Stir to combine, and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Spaghetti sauce recipes are as easy as that!
- Combine the Spaghetti and Sauce:
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time if the sauce is too thick.
- Finish and Serve:
- Stir in the fresh basil and serve immediately. If desired, top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
Notes
- For extra richness, you can drizzle a bit of extra virgin olive oil over the spaghetti before serving.
- This recipe can easily be customized with additions like sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or even cooked sausage for a heartier meal.
